Tate Modern Best for breastfeeding

Tate Modern may have had a few problems with their Turbine Hall installations, but it’s good to see that they are not making ‘boobs’ in all departments.

Giant Green Phone Update

Last week we added a new post to this blog about a Giant Green Phone that we found for sale outside an East London house. This week we Googled ‘Giant Green Phone’ and the first image to appear – from a 2008 report on the BBC website – shows the very same Giant Green Phone as the one we found.

This Giant Green Phone was once suspended over London’s financial district to raise awareness of a British child protection charity. To see it go from shiney and airborn to dirty and grounded can be taken as a sign of how, within a capitalist society, material gain takes precedence over the well-being of youngsters.

There is no record online of which charity the Giant Green Phone was meant to raise awareness of. So to heal this rift and return the Giant Green Phone to the purpose for which it was intended, we conclude this post with a link to the website of the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children.

Squirrel Story by J. Wardrop

Thank you very much Joanne for sending us your lovely squirrel story.
Ever since we drew squirrels from memory (‘Lucky Squirrel’) we have been interested in all things squirrely! So again, what squirrel is yours?

My most darling Adam, Here is the story of my squirrels… While you were away I had a day off and was in my room and heard noises outside my window – I sneaked a peek out and there were two squirrels having a rather intense conversation outside my window!

They were wonderfully human and stopped as soon as they saw me – I went to get my camera but when I came back they had gone! :(

As far as my memory serves this drawing is a spitting image of the couple.

much, much love
Joanne xxx

Liberate Os Wherever You Go!

With smiley faces inside the Os, our updated National Portrait Gallery logo would really pull the youngsters. However, their Marketing Team aren’t interested in pursuing our suggestion as they work already with a ‘roster of design agencies’, and any ‘brand changes’ are based on ‘extensive research’.

So, have you seen any ‘Os’ – on signs, posters etc – which you feel could do with some ‘special treatment’? Yes? Well go out and ‘liberate’ them with marker pen or can of spray paint. Email us your artistic efforts and we’ll post them right here on the PEPOMO Blog!

* Of course, no one involved in the production and hosting of this website encourages any action which would violate local or international statutes and treaties.

A Lidl Surreal

Surrealism is a cultural movement that began in the 1920s, best known for the visual artworks and writings of the group members, who aimed to revolutionize human experience and to free people from restrictive structures. Lidl, on the other hand, is a German discount supermarket chain, best known for being cheap.

The French poet Comte de Lautréamont was seen as a prophet by the Surrealists, who often quoted as an example of Surrealist dislocation, his line from Poésies, where he describes a young boy as “beautiful as the chance meeting on a dissecting-table of a sewing-machine and an umbrella!”

But is there anything as beautiful as the chance meeting in a Lidl of retractable dog leads, porcelain figurines, travel poker sets, loudspeaker cable, trumpets, and digital set receivers?!

* Thanks to the Surrealists and to Wikipedia. We have no association with Lidl.
